Des Plaines, Ill. (April 12, 2019) – Join business writer, marketing consultant and award-winning Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management Clinical Professor Tim Calkins for the free public Oakton Business Book Author Series presentation, “Secrets of Brilliant Business Presentations,” 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at the college’s Skokie campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Room P104.

Calkins will discuss how to give the best presentations based on his latest book, “How to Wash a Chicken,” which humorously recalls his first presentation involving an uncooperative chicken at a 4-H fair. As a professor and former advertising executive, Calkins is knowledgeable about the power of compelling presentations and the difficulty in accomplishing them, having delivered more than 5,000 seminars on topics ranging from business updates to project recommendations.

In his blog, Calkins says the book is about two basic principles, “First, everyone can create a strong presentation. Delivering a solid business recommendation doesn’t require unique creative skills. The basics are simple and easy to implement. Second, everyone can become better. There is no perfect presentation; every recommendation can be a bit tighter, every meeting can run more smoothly.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to network with Calkins and Oakton business from 6 to 6:30 p.m. The author’s presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m., and Calkins will hold a Q&A session and book signing following the presentation.

At Northwestern, Calkins teaches marketing strategy and biomedical marketing. His firm, Class 5 Consulting, works with leading corporations around the world, including Eli Lilly, Roche, Novartis and PepsiCo. He also is the author “Breakthrough Marketing Plans” and “Defending Your Brand.”

“Secrets of Brilliant Business Presentations” is sponsored by Oakton’s Alliance for Lifelong Learning with generous support from the Oakton Community College Educational Foundation.
